What is an Interventional Radiologist?

An Interventional Radiologist is a doctor who specialises in minimally invasive image guided procedures, which treat a variety of medical conditions without the need of major surgery. This is not only a less invasive form of surgery and disease treatment, but is also beneficial to patients through the minimisation of postoperative risks. Interventional Radiologists use medical imaging modalities such as X-rays, CT, ultrasound and MRI to direct specially designed instruments throughout the body to treat medical conditions such as: Fibroids, adenomyosis, liver and gallbladder problems, kidney problems, prostate enlargement, haemorrhoids, bleeding from trauma, pulmonary conditions and even localized cancer treatment.
