PREGNANCY & UTERINE FIBROIDS

Fibroids are a cause of infertility. Pregnancy and uterine fibroids together will need treatment to improve the chances of conceiving.
Many women have become pregnant after fibroid embolisation and delivered normal healthy babies.
Some women who have had successful pregnancies after UFE were advised that their fibroid disease was so bad that they should have a hysterectomy or that they would never conceive naturally.

For Your Consideration

Many of our patients wish to become pregnant or at least wish to retain the option of falling pregnant at some time in the future. For these women, a hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) is not an option. The first groups of women who chose to have UFE were advised not to do so because of the unknown impact on fertility and the growing foetus at that time. This old advice to avoid UFE if you are trying to fall pregnant persists in articles on the internet and medical textbooks despite there now being proof to the contrary.
Many women have fallen pregnant after UFE, and many of them were told that they would never have children and should have their uterus removed.
Women interested in UFE but concerned about future fertility are reviewed by fertility specialists or experienced obstetricians on our panel of gynaecologists.
